Meet Our People - John Adler
At Mercury, the people who deliver results for clients are the ones who understand what it actually takes to move a shipment from one end of a complex supply chain to the other. John Adler, Director of Business Development, is one of those people. He built his career in healthcare logistics and distribution sales, starting on the front lines managing individual accounts before advancing to lead a national strategic account portfolio exceeding $50 million and, later, a team of district sales managers driving growth across an entire national sales organization. Most recently, he led strategic growth initiatives for a healthcare technology company across the Eastern U.S. That progression, from managing single accounts to leading enterprise-wide sales strategy, gives John a clear view of what large healthcare accounts need from a logistics partner and what it actually takes for an operations team to deliver on those commitments. He joins Mercury with a genuine conviction that Mercury's model, built around dedicated Squads and measurable accountability, is the right answer.
Tell us about your professional background before joining Mercury.
I've spent the past decade partnering with health systems and healthcare organizations across the United States, from some of the nation's largest integrated delivery networks to regional and community-based healthcare providers. Most of my career has been in healthcare logistics, with a period focused on healthcare technology and clinical software. Throughout every role, my goal has remained the same: helping healthcare organizations improve efficiency, reduce costs, and simplify complex workflows. I began my career in a hybrid operations and sales support role before advancing into territory management, strategic accounts, and sales leadership. Those experiences gave me the opportunity to work with many of the country's leading healthcare organizations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions to complex challenges.
What attracted you to Mercury and the life sciences logistics industry?
What stood out most about Mercury was its unwavering commitment to service. In many large organizations, logistics can become transactional, but Mercury has built its reputation around delivering an exceptional customer experience. In healthcare and life sciences, where every shipment can have a direct impact on patient care, that level of accountability and responsiveness truly matters. I was equally impressed by Mercury's leadership team. It was clear they are deeply invested in both their people and their customers, and that kind of culture was something I wanted to be part of.
What industries, services, or customer types have you sold to previously?
My career has been focused entirely on healthcare. I've partnered with integrated delivery networks (IDNs), physician groups, pharmacies, laboratories, and ambulatory care organizations across the country. Along the way, I've worked with leaders in supply chain, operations, laboratory services, pharmacy, perioperative services, and IT. Those experiences have given me a broad understanding of how healthcare organizations operate and how logistics and technology can support each department.
What past sales experience has best prepared you for your role here?
Every role has contributed something valuable, but the experiences that prepared me most were developing sales strategies, building new markets, and creating pipelines from the ground up while adapting to the evolving needs of healthcare organizations. Throughout my career, I've also learned that trust is the foundation of every successful partnership. Healthcare organizations want a partner they can depend on, and Mercury's customer-first culture aligns closely with that philosophy.
What is one lesson from a previous role that you still use today?
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that the people you work with matter just as much as the work itself. Strong teammates, supportive leaders, and a collaborative culture create an environment where people can do their best work. I've also learned that the best teams are made up of people with different perspectives and experiences. Those diverse viewpoints challenge one another, foster growth, and ultimately lead to better outcomes for customers.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, you'll usually find me playing basketball, whether it's at the local gym or in recreational leagues around Nashville. I also enjoy taking advantage of everything the city has to offer, from concerts and sporting events to exploring local parks with my dog. Whenever I have the opportunity, I also enjoy volunteering with local dog rescue organizations.
What is something coworkers may be surprised to learn about you?
I've moved around quite a bit over the years. Since leaving Georgia for college, I've lived in Florida, Texas, Seattle, and now Nashville. Each move gave me the chance to experience different parts of the country and meet incredible people, but it's been great to settle down closer to family. Nashville is the first city where I've lived for more than two years, and it truly feels like home. People are also often surprised by my music taste. Living in Nashville, many assume I only listen to country music, but my playlists are all over the map.
